I've just come back after a week of rural enforced radio silence in beautiful Springtime Cornwall. Part of the reason for the trip was to teach a Food Photography Workshop for The Hedgecombers, which was great fun. The rest of the time was spent soaking up the sun, beach bbqs of steak and roast veg, surfing, visiting a captive rainforest (less mosquitos than the Amazon - win!) and generally unwinding. Oh and a touch of sunburn. I know I'm sufficiently pasty, no pun intended, to singe in April, yet it takes me by surprise every year.
The Hedgecombers had this to say about it: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! SO much for yesterday! It was just what I needed, and I feel so much more in control of my camera and pictures now. Your teaching style is awesome, and you clearly know & understand your subject perfectly, as you can put it across in real simple terms. Thanks again Kate xx If you have any workshop requirements, drop me a line - I love a one-to-one learning sesh!

A lovely lady spotted on my Facebook page my technique of painting in acrylic and using a craft knife to carve back to the white paper beneath. She set the theme and colour and after some back and forth, I happily created it. And how I got there...
I ordered some fabric from Spoonflower. You send your design and it's digitally printed onto one of their categories of fabric. I chose some luxuriously heavyweight linen-cotton canvas, and frankly love it!
I used some of my more intricate designs that would be entirely impossible to screen print in my make do and bodge "workshop." Paired with some heavy creamy Calico, a hand printed button or two, home printed label (scroll down for tutorial) and my new sewing machine (a wonderful surprise gift from my parents) I created some super squishy cushions! Tres exciting, the lovely people of Envelop have agreed to stock a range of my work with the woodland themed surface pattern plastered all over! You can see a wider selection here.
I'll add the full range to the shop here very shortly! Today was the perfect autumnal day for rambling through nature, asking to be smacked across the face with inspiration... It happened! I rather fancied inventing a range of surface pattern... Where do you go for inspiration..?
A bay tree needing pruning. I dried the leaves and gave them out as culinary gifts. Nothing particularly design orientated about it, but I felt like a "how to" feature in some kind of lifestyle magazine. A posh lifestyle magazine.
